For example, a wife can elect to receive spousal benefits from her husband’s Social Security benefits while he is deliberately deferring payments so that they’ll receive the increased amount at a later time. Special options may come into play if you were previously widowed or divorced. However, if you dont know about these options you cannot consider them: making informed decisions could help you and your spouse avoid losing thousands of dollars of income to which you might otherwise be entitled.
