What if you discovered that what you dont know about Social Security could result in your walking away from potentially thousands of dollars of additional income? It happens to others, literally every day.

Regardless of what you may think, the Social Security retirement system is NOT simple.  Multiple options, many of which are not common knowledge, are often available, especially for married couples.   There are spousal options available to married couples — even though most couples have never heard of them.  For example, a wife can elect to receive spousal benefits from her husband’s Social Security benefits while he is deliberately deferring payments so that they’ll receive the increased amount at a later time. Special options may come into play if you were previously widowed or divorced.  However, if you dont know about these options you cannot consider them: making informed decisions could help you and your spouse avoid losing thousands of dollars of income to which you might otherwise be entitled.

Peter Weinbaum, in this SBCA webinar, Maximizing Social Security Retirement Benefits, will open your eyes to the risks and opportunities surrounding Social Security claiming decisions. He will provide information, and will relate stories about real people with whom he has discussed Social Security claiming options: married people and divorced people; widows and widowers; spouses who are the same age and spouses who are years apart; people who dont need Social Security and people who depend on it to make ends meet; people whose work history entitles them to the maximum retirement benefits Social Security has to offer, as well as stay-at-home moms and house spouses who dont have enough years of Social Security covered employment to qualify for benefits on their own work records.
